About Chiang Chun

Vocational education is a springboard, not a finish line. Two bachelor's degrees, two master's degrees and a PhD, then post-doctoral research at Cambridge — theory and practice, side by side.

At sixteen I entered the architecture programme at Da-An Vocational High School. From drafting and surveying to operating excavators, carpentry and waterproofing, I learned what “building” really means on the construction site.

Vocational education was not the end of the road but a springboard. I went on to earn dual bachelor's degrees in architecture and construction engineering at NTUST, a master's in construction management at NTU and a master's degree at the University of Cambridge, followed by a PhD in architecture from NTUST and post-doctoral research at the University of Cambridge. Along the way, my path also took me to California, Waseda University in Japan and Cape Town in South Africa.

Today I am a professional manager in the construction industry, focused on three things: making construction management more transparent, making construction sites safer, and making buildings healthier and lower-carbon. Outside work, I have turned my experience into more than twenty certification and professional books, given over a hundred talks at schools, companies and professional associations, and continue to publish research in columns and international journals.

“Born to shine”: I believe everyone can shine in their own place.

What I Believe

What I Believe

A few lines from my posts, classrooms and construction sites.

  • Safety is the only road home.I have championed the Taiwan OSH Card for years; making sure every colleague gets home safely is a leader's most basic responsibility.
  • What is routine work for us is someone else's trust for a lifetime.A home is the biggest decision a family makes, so every detail deserves to be built as if it were our own.
  • Seismic design saves lives; seismic isolation preserves value.Structural safety is the foundation of a building. Seismic isolation protects not only lives but a lifetime's worth of property.
  • A building's story doesn't end at completion — real stewardship begins after handover.A building takes two or three years to build and is used for sixty. Design has to leave a way in for the people who maintain it.
  • Vocational education is not a fallback; it is the main stage for a professional career. What someone who started in Da-An's architecture programme most wants the next generation to know.
  • You don't have to be great to start, but you have to start to become great.Confidence comes from small wins adding up: try widely before thirty, then choose a direction and go deep after thirty.
